The Humboldt County Resource Conservation District has a long history of supporting Humboldt County’s family dairies. We’ve:
- Provided funding for construction on facilities and manure application equipment to improve management of animal waste and improve protections of water quality
- Developed nutrient management plans relevant for north coast pasture-based dairy operations
- Provided Tech Assistance to producers for enrollment in North Coast Regional Water Quality Board’s Dairy Permit program including developing representative surface water sampling program and helping producers form the Six Rivers Dairy Association, providing dairy mapping and other enrollment requirements
- Assisted NRCS with completion of 11 Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans
- Assisted NRCS with dairy conservation planning and EQIP contracting support
- Developed a Fee-for-Service program to support Six Rivers Dairy Association for surface water sampling program
- Developed the Irrigation Water and Fertigation Management Plan, an Excel-based tool for producers to calculate water and nutrient balance for crops
- Provided Tech Assistance for CDFA’s Climate Smart Agriculture Programs Alternative Manure Management Program (AMMP); helped bring $3.7 million in AMMP project funding to Humboldt County producers
- Developed Carbon Farm Plans for four dairies to date
California Irrigation Management Information System
The California Irrigation Management Information System (CIMIS) is a program unit in the Water Use and Efficiency Branch, Division of Statewide Integrated Water Management, California Department of Water Resources (DWR) that manages a network of over 145 automated weather stations in California. CIMIS was developed in 1982 by DWR and the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) to assist irrigators in managing their water resources more efficiently.
