Overview
The HCRCD was awarded under the U.S. Forest Service’s Post Fire Disaster Recovery Grant to plan and implement post fire disaster recovery treatment methods within the 2021 Knob Fire wildfire perimeter and the 2022 Six Rivers National Forest (SRNF) Lightning Complex Fire wildfire perimeter. Under U.S. Forest Service’s legal authorities for cooperative forestry, recovery work may include hazard tree removal, removal of dead trees and fuels, preparation of sites for reforestation, invasive plant control, fuels treatments, reforestation, wood product utilization, and maintenance of reforested areas. Through the Post-Fire Grant funding, the Humboldt County RCD became a newly formed Emergency Forest Restoration Team (EFRT). Resources
The Resource Conservation District Post-Fire Playbook Version 2 is a resource guide created by the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD) to assist in navigating post-wildfire recovery efforts. It provides a structured approach to assessing fire damage, securing funding, coordinating with partners, and implementing recovery strategies. The handbook covers key topics such as fire damage assessment, funding opportunities, permitting, erosion control, forest regeneration, and long-term monitoring. It also emphasizes community outreach, education, and collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies to enhance wildfire resilience. Designed as a living document, the playbook offers adaptable guidance tailored to the unique needs of each district. Click the image to check out the playbook.
The Emergency Forest Restoration Teams (EFRTs) are organized groups led by a primary entity to rapidly assess and implement post-wildfire restoration on Non-Industrial Private Forestland (NIPF). Established as part of Action Item 1.14 of the Governor’s Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan, EFRTs address the growing scale and severity of California wildfires by assisting small private landowners who lack the resources to rehabilitate their lands independently.
